Bertran "Burt" Simmons

Mr. Bertran Simmons, Sr., 93, of Wiggins, MS., entered his heavenly rest on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital surrounded by those he loved.  Burt as he was lovingly known, was born May 3, 1932, to Colin and Essie (Dennis) Simmons, of the India Community, in Stone County, MS.  He attended Perkinston Consolidated School before joining the United States Navy, where he proudly served. Upon discharge from the Navy, Burt met and married the love of his life, Ms. Cora Scarbrough and to this union, six children were born. They would soon settle in the Bond Community to raise their little family.  Burt was a logger by trade as well as a mechanic and loved taking care of his flowers for fun.  Burt loved his family and the time spent together was priceless, he will be immensely missed by them all.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Cora Simmons; his parents, Colin and Essie Simmons; two sons, Thomas Simmons and Bertran Simmons, Jr.; one grandson, Michael Galen Simmons; five brothers, Ed, Mike, Colin, Tom, and Billy Simmons; and four sisters, Essie Gardner, Lillian Torbert, Jannie Brown, and Bernice Griffen.  Left to cherish his memory, his one and only daughter, Barbara Simmons; three sons, Anthony Simmons, Vincent and Roslyn Simmons, and Conan and Renee Simmons; a legacy of eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Services for Burt will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, beginning at 9:00 am for a Visitation and followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 am, with Reverend Gary James officiating.  Burt will be laid to rest next to his bride at New Welcome Hill Baptist Church Cemetery directly following services.
