Bernice Gay Necaise, born on February 17, 1943, in Mississippi, passed away on October 27, 2025, in Gulfport, MS. Her legacy is one of unwavering dedication, love, and compassion, deeply woven into the fabric of her community and family.
Bernice devoted 42 years of her life to the Harrison County School District, where she managed the cafeteria and ensured hundreds of children safely made their way to and from school. Her career reflected her nurturing spirit and her genuine care for the well-being of the youth in her community.
A devoted Christian, Bernice never missed an opportunity to attend church, instilling the same values in her family and ensuring they too were present in their faith. She was not only a remarkable wife and mother but epitomized the role of a grandmother. Known affectionately as everyone's grandma, she embraced this title with grace, warmth, and the best hugs anyone could hope for. Her love knew no bounds, and she was a beloved presence in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Bernice is survived by her loving daughter, Bernadette (Mike) Cuevas, and her son, Donald Brad (Stacy) Necaise. She is also cherished by her grandchildren: Shaun Necaise, Jeremy (Christina) Necaise, Dylan Necaise, Michael Paul (Breanna) Cuevas, Jessica Murphy, Cortney (Amber) Necaise, BradLee, Jazmine, McKenzie, Kayleigh, LeeAnn, and Joseph, as well as Braden Stanley and Jackie (Kendrick) Ladner. Her great-grandchildren, Leah (BJ) Kennedy, Caiden (Lilly) Bennett, Caleb (Haileigh) Necaise, Kayleigh (Jace Ladner) Necaise, Jaylyn (Brian Vanbuskirk) Necaise, Braxton Necaise, Riley Necaise, Haizlyn Cuevas, Jadon Cuevas, Kaizleigh Malley, Leah, Carter, K.K., and Gage, alongside her great-great-grandchild, Luca Bennett, carry forward her vibrant spirit. Bernice also leaves behind an adopted family member, Suzie Tillery, who held a special place in her heart.
Yet the bonds of family tie her also to those who have passed. She is reunited with her beloved husband Donald Necaise of 49 years, her sisters: Peggy Ladner, Doris Cooper, Helen Ladner, June Shows and Jimmy Faye (Charles) Campbell and children, Michelle Necaise and three babies.
Preparations for the day to honor her memory will acknowledge the profound impact she had on her loved ones and community. Bernice's loss is deeply felt by those who knew her, as she has left an indelible mark on the lives she enriched with her love and kindness. She will be remembered fondly and missed dearly.
