Bernice (Head) Broadus

February 4, 1938 — June 1, 2023

Saucier

Bernice Broadus, 85, passed away June 1st, 2023 at her home in Saucier, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 04, 1938 in Poplarville, the third of eight children to Robert Steve and Lorena (Seal) Head. Bernice grew up outside Poplarville in rural Pearl River County near Wolf River, where the family had a small farm. Her and her siblings were accustomed to all the chores and work associated with the country life. When their chores were done, you could always find them down at the river, swimming, fishing, and having fun. Bernice attended school at Savannah where she played basketball. She first married Olan Ray Anderson, but a couple of years later, she was married to A.C. "Stubb" Broadus. That would happen again through the years, with her second marriage to Stubb ending with his passing in 1997. She began her family in Poplarville, later settling in Saucier where she had lived since 1984. Bernice went to work sewing, spending her career cutting and sewing in the garment factories. She worked at Movie Star, Maybell's, Pass Christian Industries, Garrett Industries, and more thru the years. She absolutely loved sewing, making no telling how many garments through the years, and would have still been there working today if she could have. When she wasn't working, Bernice loved to read. She would read just about anything, with novels being among her favorites. Now she loved and adored her family, and having them all together, well that made it even better. She enjoyed cooking, laughing and dancing, and Nellia's banana cake. She is lovingly remembered as a sweet, loving sister, wife, and mother, but she was also a "firecracker" of a woman, taking after her mother. Bernice was sweet and gentle, but she sure didn't hold anything back, telling anyone exactly what was on her mind. For all that she was, she will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Bernice was preceded by her parents, Steve and Lorena Head; her husbands, Olan Ray Anderson and Stub Broadus; one son, Joe Anderson, her sisters, Pauline Seal and Cleo Awrey, and her brothers, Leo and Micky Head; and four of her grandchildren: Jamie Ladner, Chrissy Bell, Kyle Smith, and Keith Broadus. Left to cherish her memories are: her children: daughters Elaine (Garfield Johnson) Baxter of Lumberton; Tracey (Tommy) Bell of Saucier, and Mickey Anderson of Purvis, with sons Hal (Nelia) Broadus and Faron (Denise) Broadus, both of Saucier; brothers J.D.(Lydia) Head of Poplarville, Buster Head of Hattiesburg, and her sister Alice Wanack of Peoria, IL. Bernice leaves a legacy of thirty-eight grandchildren, including eight grands, nineteen great-grands, and eleven great-great-grands, with numerous extended family, friends, and co-workers through the years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation will begin at 2 PM, followed by a chapel service at 3, with Rev. Jeff Easterling officiating. Afterward, Bernice will be laid to rest in Biloxi Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Broadus family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
