Bernell Necaise

Bernell Necaise, 79 of the Necaise community, passed away February 11th at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. He was born at the family home there in Necaise, on September 29, 1942, the third of nine children to Ceville and Rozenia (Ladner) Necaise. He grew up between Necaise Crossing and the Kiln where he enjoyed horses and rabbit hunting. Bernell also enjoyed music, and quickly developed a love for dancing. He could really "cut a rug" as they say, two-stepping, swinging, and jitter-bugging his way around any room. Now Bernell was a bit adventurous in his day, running his share of moonshine at times, but he eventually outgrew that. He met Peggy, who also enjoyed dancing, and they began a relationship that spanned the next 58 years. Bernell worked in a few places over the years, including the enamel plant, the Port of Gulfport, in construction doing insulation, and more. He worked hard, doing whatever he could find to earn enough to pay the bills, support the family, and still have enough for him and Peggy to go dancing, which they did quite often. He is remembered as just an all-around good person. The type who never met a stranger, Bernell was a caring husband and great father. He was a selfless, Christian man with a strong Catholic faith who did his best to enjoy life. He was pretty good at telling stories and could twist them like a wagon wheel, but he was really good on the dance floor. He liked his music, and he was always singing...though most who heard it wouldn't call it that. Bernell couldn't carry a tune for nothing, but that never stopped him from trying. He will be forever loved and missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Ceville and Rozenia Necaise, sisters Genavie Ladner and Bertha Parker, with brothers James, Elcede, and J.C. Necaise. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of almost 56 years, Peggy; their two sons, Brian (Rose) Necaise and Cory (Brigette) Necaise; and three sisters: Mildred Ladner, Maundell Tomasich, and Janelle Bourgeois. Bernell leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: Tanner and Kristen Necaise, Brittany Seal, Brennan Davis, and Shanae and Sheena, and two great-grands: Mia and Paislee, along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors through the years. Services will be held at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, with visitation from at 6:00 until 10:00 PM Tuesday evening, February 15th, and again Wednesday morning, February 16th from 9:00 AM until the service begins at noon. Afterward he will be laid to rest in the Alphonse-Malley Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Necaise family in their time of need. Please remember Peggy and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
