B.E. (Byrus) Hurt, 94, born on May 13, 1930, in Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 at home in Lumberton. Byrus worked in the furniture industry most of his life. He was a founding member of the Lumberton Lions Club and actively served as a member of the Lumberton Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Hurt was a member of Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association Board for 42 years. Byrus loved his family and was grounded in his love for Jesus Christ. He served as a Baptist deacon for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lumberton.
B.E. is preceded in death by his mother Verby Sims Hurt, his father Ward M.(Irene) Hurt, his sister Sara Guffee and his son Ward Hurt. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Gloria Bell Hurt, one brother, Jerry (Patty) Hurt, daughters Sara (Pat) Sandifer, Janet (Jim) Landrum and Becky Hester. Also, survived by 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 6:30pm-8:30pm Thursday evening, May 16 and Friday morning, May 17 at 9:00am at First Baptist Church of Lumberton. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 17 at 10:00am. Internment to follow at Lumberton City Cemetery.
