Axel Martin Olson Sr., born on March 4, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, departed this world on October 14, 2025, in Slidell, Louisiana. He leaves behind a legacy woven deeply into the hearts of his family and friends, one that will be cherished for generations to come.
Axel was a dedicated welding inspector offshore, known widely among those who worked in the Gulf of Mexico. His reputation as a skilled and diligent worker preceded him, and many knew his name well. He took great pride in his career, often reflecting on the remarkable platforms he helped construct across the expansive waters of the gulf.
A proud graduate of Slidell High School, Class of 1974, Axel carried the lessons of hard work and determination throughout his life. He wasn’t just a dedicated worker; he was also a passionate individual who found joy in hunting and fishing, always embracing the great outdoors. Never one to shy away from hard work, he balanced his labor with moments of laughter and play, often seeking to bring a smile to those around him. Axel had a remarkable ability to find that button in people, always eager for their reactions, embodying a spirit of joy and connection that defined his interactions with others.
At the core of Axel’s life were his family and the bond he shared with them. He was a loving father and devoted husband to his beloved Cindi Olson. Together, they created a beautiful family that was his proudest accomplishment. His children were a source of immense pride for him. Axel’s nurturing love extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchild, as well as to a host of nieces and nephews who fondly remember the warmth and joy he brought into their lives.
Axel is survived by his wife, Cindi, his cherished children Daniel, Axel Jr. (and wife Susie), Ashli (and husband Chris), Kori, and Laci— and their families, his dear brothers Karl, David, Olaf, and Eric. He joins in rest his beloved mother, Doris Mae Olson, and father, Emile Valentine Olson, as well as his sisters, Inger Buras and Donna Schiller.
His spirit will be felt evermore in the family they built together, a testament to the love and togetherness that he cherished above all. Axel was easy to love, and those who knew him are left with a profound sense of loss but also with an enduring celebration of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed.
