Janice Frae Carty, 54 of Saucier, passed away Sunday morning in Saucier. She was born October 23, 1965 in Vermillion county, Indiana, the middle of 4 children to Joseph Gerald & Dora Francis (Prouse) Cottrell.Growing up in Clinton, IN, Janice loved to read, ride her bicycle and go swimming. Riding their bikes to grandma's house was a regular thing for her and her siblings, which was about a 5 mile trip to get there. And of course there was the normal loving sibling squabbles from time to time, as there normally are, but Janice was not one to tangle with. If she actually hit you, you knew you had been hit. They enjoyed camping and other outdoor activities as well. Janice graduated from South Vermillion High School in 1983 and joined the US Army, serving honorably both in Europe and stateside. After her discharge, she attended Ivy Tech and obtained certification as an LPN, working in healthcare until an injury forced her retirement. She was married to Rick Carty and they made their family home in Clinton, IN for many years. Janice lost Rick unexpectedly in 2002 and she was never the same. Through all she has endured, Janice is remembered as the "sweetest, loving person", one who would do anything for you. Her siblings say she was the "kindhearted" one in the bunch, but still one you did not want to cross. An awesome mom and even better grandmother, Janice will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded by her parents, Joseph Gerald & Dora Francis Cottrell, and her loving husband, Rick Carty. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughters Nancy Sergent, Sarah (Alex) Montgomery, and Ashley Carty, all of IN; her siblings: sisters Janie (Bruce) Anderson of Saucier, MS and Joann (Doug) Short of Clinton, IN, and a brother John (Brenda) Cottrell of Eight Mile, AL. Janice leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren and seven great-grands that she loved dearly, with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Janice's final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A memorial service will be held at a later date, after which she will be interred beside her late husband Rick in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton, IN. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Carty family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over this difficult time..
