Mr. James Edward "Rube" Dickinson, 75 of Lumberton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 11, 2019. He was born on July 19, 1943 to Lavelle and Loretta (Stuart) Dickinson in Hattiesburg, MS. He was blessed with a stepdad, Woodrow Owen, that came into his life when he was 4 and raised him. He was a man that wore many hats in his day. Rube, as his family and friends called him, was a fixture in Lumberton. Everyone knew to go see "Ole Rube" on the corner in Lumberton to get the best vegetables and watermelons. While being a carpenter and farmer, he also proudly served 18 years in the National Guard and was constable for Lamar County. He had a stubborn streak but was a true family man. Married to Ms Glenda for 53 years, together they raised 3 sons. They only thought they knew love when the grandchildren came along but the great grands took it to a whole new level. Rube was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lavelle Dickinson, Loretta and Woodrow Owen; sisters, Carolyn Bounds and Doris House; brother, Neil Harper. Rube leaves behind his wife, Glenda (Hendricks) Dickinson; 3 sons, Randy, Tracy (Cindy) and Shane "Shuck" Dickinson; brothers, Robert, Don and Glenn Owen; grandchildren, Chris, Chloe, Mallory, Sadie, Shep and Jordan; great-grands, Tiercie and Carsyn along with numerous extended family and life-long friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16 from 4 to 6 pm at Trinity Funeral Services in Lumberton with funeral services at 6 pm. Interment will follow at Little Black Creek Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dickinson family in their time of need and ask that you keep Ms. Glenda and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
