Ms. Doris Rose Jones, 77 of Lumberton, joined her husband Lavert in their new home in glory Sunday morning. She was born November 17, 1941, the baby of six children to Jesse Howard & Almedia Rose (Pearce) Hayes. She grew up a true Southern lady that knew the meaning of work. As a young girl, she was very active and outgoing, playing basketball while in school. Doris loved the outdoors, working in the garden and taking care of her flowers, but she spent her time indoors learning to cook, which she loved as well. Over the years she perfected her craft, and was simply awesome making biscuits, dumplings, cornbread, and dressing. She enjoyed canning and making jellies and preserves to go along with those delicious biscuits. Doris married Lavert June 11, 1960, and while he was busy building houses for others, she was busy making their home. She even had her own she-shed, which lightning did strike and burn down some years ago, but that didn't stop her. Her kids recall many gatherings with her friends at home, drinking coffee and playing cards. Doris loved her lilies, roses, sunflowers, and she actually grew a pineapple. She is remembered as a strong-willed woman with a loving heart and a great sense of humor. She loved a good laugh as much as anyone, and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Doris was preceded by her parents, Jesse & Almedia Hayes; her loving husband, Lavert Jones; their son Herman Lavon Jones, and a grandson, Caleb Myles Campfield, and her siblings: Roland Hayes, Eloise Hayes-Zent, Buddy Hayes, R.V. Hayes, and Glorice Hayes Knight Fairley. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughters Almedia (Grady) Hendricks of Lumberton, Freda Gail (Eric) Rocker) of Poplarville, and Melissa Ann Jones of Arkansas; grandchildren: Christopher David (Barbara) Ried of Carnes, Latisha (Chris) Herrin of Lumberton, Ashley Jones-Mooney (Jay) of Poplarville, Eric (Erica) Jones of Poplarville, Tiffany (Joseph) Nelson of Lumberton, and Austin (Karley) Slade of Poplarville, with great-grands Jessica, Amy Rose, Bradley, Levi, Brooke, Rylee, Fisher, Ellie Mae, Laken, and Tyson, and 2 great-great grands Cleston and Dakotalynn, along with many inlaws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services are set for Tuesday, September 10th at Hickory Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for visitation at 11:00 AM, with the funeral service in the sanctuary beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Jones family in their time of need, and asks that everyone keep them in their prayers over the coming days.
